Lisa experienced domestic violence strangulation in 1973. Her boyfriend tightened his hands around her neck as she tried to scream. She attempted to scratch his face but a voice told her she would become like him if she did, so she decided not to. Saying "God help me," she knew she would die. Her chest and face were extremely painful before losing consciousness. She found herself in darkness seeing figure outlines above them. She saw someone with blonde hair and panicked seeing a horrible frightening mask. Fear overwhelmed her before her eyes opened looking into her attacker's eyes, thinking she would have to endure it again. She had gurgling attempts to breathe. The entirely distressing experience left her with severe PTSD, greatly increased fear of death, confusion about God's role, difficulty trusting others, and lasting psychological trauma. She moved toward New Age beliefs rather than maintaining her Catholic faith.
