Irene's experience contains some elements found in near-death accounts but is fundamentally incompatible with biblical teaching. Her sense of dying and traveling through a tunnel to another realm parallels some biblical descriptions of spiritual transition. The heightened spiritual senses allowing telepathic communication and the encounter with spiritual beings reflect elements found in biblical spiritual experiences. Her return to physical life demonstrates the temporary nature of the experience. However, the experience directly contradicts core biblical doctrines. Irene explicitly states there was no God or religious figures present, contradicting biblical teaching that all spiritual reality is under God's sovereignty. Irene had taken a large amount of amphetamines, ecstasy, and other drugs with the intention to kill herself. She suddenly found herself inside a dark, starry tunnel like the night sky, with a colorful light at the end containing all the colors of the rainbow rather than white light. Something was pulling her toward this light. When she arrived and went through the light, she encountered shadows without faces who communicated with her telepathically, telling her she was finally going to 'know him.' The shadows took her hands and brought her near a man whom she did not see but immediately recognized as Luis Alberto Spinetta, her idol and a famous Argentinian rock singer with whom she felt a deep spiritual connection. Significantly, this experience occurred on the first anniversary of Spinetta's death, and Irene had been crying all day about his passing. Just before the musician was going to speak with her, she felt pulled downward, the tunnel became dark again, and she awakened on a hospital gurney. She emphasizes there was no god or religious figures in her experience. The encounter reinforced her atheistic beliefs while leaving her uncertain about whether an afterlife might exist.
