Pre-birth memories, universal oneness concept
This childhood NDE presents significant theological concerns from a biblical perspective. While the life-saving aspect could be seen as divine providence, several elements conflict with biblical teaching. Most problematic are the subject's claims of having memories from before birth and believing he could exist outside his body at will prior to this event. These suggest belief in pre-mortal existence of souls, which contradicts the biblical understanding that each soul is created at conception (Psalm 139:13-16). The concept of universal connection where "all things were directly connected" and the ability to have "gestalt knowledge" of any object reflects New Age monism or pantheism rather than biblical theism which maintains distinction between Creator and creation. The subject's statement about earliest memories being "confirmed events that occurred several years before birth" directly contradicts scripture's teaching about the beginning of individual existence. While raised Protestant Christian, the subject now refuses to identify his current religion and continues searching for belief systems that incorporate these experiences. The telepathic abilities and multidimensional perception, while fascinating, align more with occult or psychic phenomena than biblical spiritual gifts.
Nine-year-old Garry was exploring an older house being remodeled when he discovered a closet with a large hole in the floor. Attempting to climb down, he slipped and became stuck with his weight pressing on his diaphragm and arms pinned, causing suffocation. After brief panic, he calmly passed out and exited his body, floating in the center of the room with panoramic awareness of everything inside and outside the building. He observed a shimmering fog growing more distinct and substantial, knowing that if he didn't get help soon he couldn't return. Aware of his four-year-old sister playing outside, he moved through the second-story window and positioned himself inches from her face. Unable to make sound but able to hear her thoughts, he felt resistance like a heavy wool blanket preventing communication. He focused all his thought into a mental "shout" for help directed at her. She suddenly ran toward the house, leading adults to the room where they pulled him from the hole and he started breathing again. The experience included multidimensional vision allowing simultaneous perception of walls, interior framing, and exteriors, plus gestalt knowledge of everything he focused on.
