This experience presents significant theological challenges from a biblical perspective. While it contains some elements consistent with scripture - such as heaven, gates, prayer, and meeting God - it also includes highly problematic concepts that directly contradict biblical teaching. The most concerning aspect is Roy's claim of pre-existence memories and choosing to be "born again" from heaven into a new earthly life, which strongly suggests reincarnation. This fundamentally contradicts the biblical teaching in Hebrews 9:27 that humans die once and then face judgment.
The account does include biblical elements like heaven depicted with clouds and gates, souls in prayer, and an encounter with God in a golden building who gives a new name (reminiscent of Revelation 2:17). The cosmic journey and observation of Earth from space, while unusual, don't necessarily contradict scripture. However, the narrative's suggestion that souls pre-exist in heaven and choose to be born on Earth opposes the biblical understanding of human creation and the nature of life and death. The mixing of these reincarnation themes with otherwise biblical imagery creates a syncretic account that, while containing some truth, presents a fundamentally unbiblical view of the afterlife and human existence.
Roy S experienced clinical death at a young age while in his mother's car. After getting into the back seat and being made to wear a seatbelt, he began coughing progressively deeper until he couldn't breathe. Despite his mother's repeated attempts to get him to respond, he fell unconscious with no detectable pulse or breathing. The passenger confirmed multiple times that there was no pulse at his wrist, throat, or heart, declaring "I think your son's dead."
During his clinical death, Roy experienced leaving his body, noting his semi-transparent hands and ability to pass through objects. When he swiped his hand through the passenger's elbow, she remarked about sudden coldness. After hearing a voice say "It's time to go," he was shot upward at incredible speeds, viewing Earth from space within seconds. He traveled through cosmic tunnels at hyper speeds, orbiting a massive planet, and witnessing someone being pulled into a dark hole before a voice warned him away from it. Roy found himself on a large cloud in Heaven where he could see a gathering of twenty people, some holding hands. A female voice called him by name, telling him not to be afraid. He observed another soul praying before gates with a figure standing guard. The woman asked why he remained in his "ghostly state" since people usually transition before entering heaven. After looking to her left and understanding something, she informed Roy there had been a mistake and he must return to Earth, though he would come back someday. As Roy fell back toward Earth, someone waved goodbye from the cloud's edge. He re-entered his body through the car roof and immediately awakened to his mother still calling his name. Everything had returned to normal as if nothing had happened, with the train that had been approaching when he died now passing by. Roy also shares memories of a pre-birth existence in Heaven, including meeting God in a golden building and choosing to be reborn, though these earlier memories are fragmentary. |
