Though she could not see anything in the darkness, she was no longer aware of her body and felt she had entered a clearly mystical realm. Her father rescued her from the water before she could explore further. Water drained from her lungs and she began breathing on her own, though she was very sick afterward. She felt surprised to find herself back at the beach and felt robbed of the opportunity to remain in that peaceful place. She did not speak of the experience until age 45, when she finally shared it with her parents. Both were surprised by her account, and her father clearly remembered the day.
