While this experience contains some biblical elements, it includes numerous concepts that diverge significantly from orthodox Christian teaching. The positive biblical elements include the encounter with divine Love and light, which could represent God's presence, the complete absence of judgment reflecting God's grace, and the miraculous healing that defies medical explanation. The transformation toward greater love and compassion aligns with biblical fruits of the Spirit. The experience of being above all Creation could parallel Paul's experience of being caught up to the third heaven.
However, the experience contains multiple problematic elements from a biblical perspective. The concept of "Higher Selves" contradicts biblical anthropology, suggesting a Gnostic or New Age view of multiple levels of being rather than the biblical teaching of humans as unified body-soul-spirit. The claim of past life experiences directly contradicts Hebrews 9:27 about dying once. Regular visits from "alien friends" (described as tall humanoids and Greys) introduces extraterrestrial elements foreign to scripture. The Native American healing ritual with shamanic elements, while culturally significant, employs spiritual practices outside biblical frameworks. The claim of enhanced psychic abilities, seeing angels regularly, and hearing "great voices" telling him things suggests ongoing revelatory experiences that some would consider extrabiblical. The visualization of cancer as spiritual entities with fangs, while metaphorically powerful, implies a dualistic spiritual warfare different from biblical demonology.
On Holy Thursday 2006, John was dying at MD Anderson Cancer Center from advanced myelogenous leukemia with a 60% blast crisis (15% is considered terminal). After fighting the cancer for four years since his 2002 diagnosis, his bone marrow was destroyed and he had no blood production. Covered with heated blankets but still freezing, with all cells and organs screaming for blood, he was given only hours to live. Doctors provided pain medication for humanitarian reasons, knowing death was imminent. His wife remained at his bedside during this final crisis.
The hospital bed began rocking like a porch swing, and when John opened his eyes, everything alive was on fire with vibrant color. All plants appeared incredibly beautiful, and his pain ceased completely, replaced by perfect peace. He began rising above his body and wife, flowing upward without a tunnel, climbing very high. Looking back, he could see his body and wife far below. He then jumped somehow above all Creation into the Presence of God. The Light was so bright and infusing he initially thought it was power, then realized it was Love. There was no judgment, only unbelievable Love. With 360-degree vision, he could see forever - all Creation, all universes, all life. He realized all Creation is full of life and Love is behind it all. John observed his cancer as black squid-like entities with sharp fangs on tentacles when his son performed healing. He saw 6-foot-wide beams of light emanating from his son's and wife's heads extending into eternity, with his wife's exploding into a beautiful crown at 15 feet. He witnessed his own Higher Self and his son's higher self dressed in monk robes standing behind them. Later, he observed his ego as a dark shadow down a tunnel that extinguished all the lights when it rejoined him. When his wife tapped his knee saying "Don't you leave me!" John felt like being hit by a truck with an extremely loud crash, returning to his body but not entirely in it. He could still see beautiful lights and beams of color from everything alive. He entered a coma over Easter weekend, and on Monday when asked if he wanted to go on, he chose to stay and fight. MD Anderson states he's the only person in the world to survive the terminal stage of this cancer. Despite subsequently having 20 severe cases of pneumonia (12 considered terminal), acute pancreatitis, two strokes, and other life-threatening conditions, he continues to survive. The experience left him with enhanced psychic abilities, healing powers, and regular contact with angels and "alien friends." |
