This experience contains significant unbiblical elements that contradict core Christian doctrine. While the medical crisis was genuine and life-threatening, the spiritual interpretation is deeply problematic from a biblical perspective. The claim of "completely merging with God" and being "one with God" reflects pantheistic or New Age beliefs rather than biblical Christianity, which maintains Creator-creature distinction. Her statement "we are God, just differentiated" directly contradicts biblical monotheism and the nature of God. The development of psychic abilities including seeing/hearing spirits, telepathic communication, and connecting with "mountain spirits" represents occult practices explicitly forbidden in scripture (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). Her involvement in shamanic practices and Peruvian spiritual healing traditions, along with her eclectic religious mix of Catholic, Buddhist, Taoist, and Hindu beliefs, demonstrates syncretism incompatible with biblical faith. The belief in becoming one's own healer through mind-channeled powers reflects New Age self-deification rather than dependence on God. Gwen was sitting next to her daughter on a tour bus when a rock larger than the bus fell on the back where they were seated. She immediately knew she had a pneumothorax and would die unless someone recognized it. Her teeth hit together so hard that some broke, causing a concussion. She was told to stand up and get off the bus but said she couldn't. Someone insisted she muster all strength to get up. She started to stand then remembers nothing until waking on an X-ray table in Cusco hospital 7 hours later, though she was reportedly talking during the first part of those hours. She had bilateral pulmonary hemorrhages, pneumothorax, concussion, and multiple left-side fractures. At 14,000 feet altitude, her blood pressure was dropping rapidly and breathing slowed to 4 times per minute. The nurse felt she was deciding whether to live or die. When her memory of those 7 hours returned, it was extremely difficult. She remembered completely merging with God - a void of darkness but unconditional love where she was no longer separate but belonged, where she came from. It was perfect. When time came to return, she had to differentiate from God and become a separate soul again, yet still part of God. The experience led her to quit her job, travel to Peru to learn spiritual healing traditions, and develop abilities to see/hear spirits, communicate telepathically with children, and connect with nature. She now spends 40 minutes daily in meditation and spiritual practice.
