Gary's NDE contains some elements that could align with biblical descriptions - the out-of-body experience suggesting soul/body separation, encounters with powerful light beings that could be interpreted as angels, travel to another realm, and the overwhelming experience of love. The umbilical cord of light connecting him to Earth while time passed differently suggests touching the eternal realm where time operates differently than our physical world. The transformative effect eliminating fear of death and increasing love for others reflects positive spiritual fruit.
However, significant incompatibilities with biblical Christianity are evident. Gary explicitly states he doesn't believe in God even after this experience, describing himself as having "nature" as his religion. This direct rejection of God despite a profound spiritual experience is deeply concerning from a biblical perspective. The dark red crystals entering him causing euphoria has more in common with new age or occult practices than biblical encounters. His belief that the experience proved an afterlife while simultaneously rejecting God suggests deception - possibly demonic entities masquerading as beings of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). His continued rejection of organized religion and God, while embracing a vague nature-based spirituality, indicates the experience led him away from rather than toward biblical truth.
On December 14, 1992, Gary was involved in a terribly violent car accident during a rainstorm when the vehicle went off the road and crashed into trees. He suffered severe injuries with all ribs on his right side broken, a collapsed lung, and his arm broken in four places. His friend Donnie, sitting next to him in the backseat, only lost his front teeth. The medical severity of Gary's injuries indicates a life-threatening event requiring immediate emergency care and likely surgical intervention.
Gary's experience began with observing himself from about five feet above his own head as Donnie helped him from the car. He noticed he was starting to go bald and felt love for his friend. After lying down in the rain, he suddenly shot out of his body at very high speed into complete darkness like a universe without stars. Two light beings flew directly in front of him and stopped him cold. Looking back, he saw an umbilical cord of light connecting him to Earth, which was spinning rapidly with days/weeks/months passing in seconds. The beings, appearing as wavering triangular lights, communicated telepathically that he wasn't going anywhere. Dark red, sharp crystals emerged from the lights and passed into him, causing the most amazing euphoria and ecstasy he had ever experienced. The most striking veridical element was Gary's out-of-body observation of himself from above, seeing the top of his own head and his beginning baldness - a detail he hadn't been aware of before. He heard his friend Donnie calling "Don't leave me Gary! Wake up!" directly in his ear during the experience, which corresponded to Donnie's actual attempts to revive him. The experience was so vivid that twenty years later he remembers every detail as if it happened five minutes ago, more accurately than any other life events from that time. Following the NDE, Gary's fear of death completely disappeared. He cherishes loved ones more than ever and tries never to take relationships for granted. While not religious, he believes the experience proved there is another realm beyond this life. The light beings' love was overwhelming, feeling like love was the glue holding everything together. He describes the experience as eclipsing every other experience in his life. |
