Angel M experienced a near-death experience in 1990 following a deliberate overdose during an abusive marriage. Her husband was violent and unfaithful, bringing home young women and comparing her to them. The abuse included threats with guns, choking, and psychological cruelty. Feeling trapped and unable to think clearly due to the ongoing trauma from both her childhood and marriage, she decided to end her life through an overdose.
During the medical crisis, Angel fought against the breathing tube initially, which hospital staff mistook for convulsions. She then felt a distinct thump in her chest followed by a physical pulling sensation as her spirit separated from her body. She describes this as a release and letting go, feeling no fear or concern about dying. From an out-of-body perspective, she observed her physical body in the hospital bed and could clearly hear what medical staff were saying about her condition. The experience brought Angel profound peace and a complete absence of fear about death. She felt surrounded by understanding and knowledge during the separation from her body. She mentions feeling more conscious and alert than normal, with faster thought processes and enhanced hearing abilities. Everything seemed to happen simultaneously or outside normal time constraints. The emotional tone was entirely pleasant, characterized by relief and joy at the release from physical suffering. Upon returning to her body, Angel retained a changed perspective on life and death. She no longer fears death and has become more compassionate toward others. While she still struggles with life difficulties and mentions still wanting to die due to ongoing hardships, she maintains that the experience was definitely real and meaningful. She gained understanding that universal connection exists and that life continues beyond physical death. |
