Wiccan practices, empathic abilities
This NDE presents serious biblical incompatibilities despite some initial alignment. While the presence showing future purpose could suggest divine providence, the development of empathic/psychic abilities directly contradicts biblical prohibitions against divination. Her conversion to Wicca represents explicit rejection of biblical faith for pagan practices. The impersonal "it" lacks the personal, relational nature of the biblical God. While she uses her abilities to help others, the source and nature of these abilities conflict with scripture's warnings against supernatural practices outside God's direct revelation. The experience led away from, rather than toward, biblical faith.
On February 13, 1995 (which she calls Black Friday), a mother with fibromyalgia took two new over-the-counter pills her doctor had prescribed. While driving to the hospital with her five-month-old daughter who had croup, she went into anaphylactic shock on the highway. Her throat tightened, chest became heavy, and everything blurred. She managed to put the van in park before losing consciousness and was found face down on Route 15 in 12-degree weather by a passing motorist who rescued both her and her baby.
During her NDE in the emergency room, she first experienced overwhelming sensory input - sounds were extremely loud, including the hum of lights, clothing movement, and people's breathing. Smells bombarded her. She saw herself on the table surrounded by shadows of medical staff, unable to cry out. She observed through a camera-lens-like focus, seeing her baby in the car seat and the woman who rescued them pushing her purse onto a nurse. She experienced panic and fear, then a strange silent stillness as they worked on her. She then encountered what she calls "it" - a presence that communicated through video clip-like scenes showing her future events and instructions about what was to come. Without words, this presence made her understand why she had to return, giving her "utter clarity" about her purpose. Her primary veridical observations were seeing herself being worked on from outside her body and observing the woman who rescued her with her baby, details she couldn't have known while unconscious. After returning, she developed empathic abilities - feeling the emotions and pain of others so intensely she often must seclude herself. She accurately predicted her mother's illness, helped save a friend from an abusive ex by sensing her danger, and has assisted many others, though most react with discomfort to her abilities.
